About the Owner

In 1983, I started working for a pest control company in Greenwood, SC doing general pest control. In 1987, I moved to my hometown (Anderson, SC) and opened Extermi-Knight of Anderson. I was the third largest privately owned pest control company in Anderson County. I ventured out and did both minor and major repairs due to pest and water/moisture related damage. I was approached by an individual who was interested in purchasing my business and also by another individual who was interested in me coming to work for him in the Restoration and Remodeling business the same week. After discussing with my wife, we agreed that getting away from the chemicals would be a good decision.

In 1989, I sold Extermi-Knight of Anderson and went to work for Casualty Contractors. I earned my SC contractors license and began working in management with the "promise" to manage the company when the owner retired in two to three years. After about one and a half years into the change, the owner decided not to retire so I decided to learn what I could and someday maybe open my own construction business. I injured my eye on the jobsite one day and while out of work, he decided to "re-structure" the business and I was no longer employed. I took a job at a local textile plant as the Distribution Manager. I oversaw three warehouses, several million dollars of inventory, and operated three shifts. During this time, I still had the love for construction and did several remodel jobs on the side and even constructed several offices within the plant . Being confined to the interior and not being able to meet new people was about to kill me.

My wife's uncle had built a home on Holden Beach in the early 1990's and we had vacationed there for several years. We both loved the area and even talked of one day maybe moving there. On one of our vacations, I was talking to several "locals" and discovered that the amount of repairs and remodeling verses the amount of contractors was way out of proportion. We discussed the move, put the house on the market and the rest is history. We sold faster than expected and had to move at the beginning of the winter. Hurricane Floyd had just hit and just about all the homes had either been repaired or were under contract wither other contractors. Needless to say, I was about to go crazy. I didn't move here for the hurricanes but thought that would get my "foot in the door". Boy was I wrong. Business was very slow that winter and I thought on many occasions about moving back. My wife told me to do what I knew best and that was to go and meet with the adjusters from different insurance companies just to get my name out. She was right. Business started picking up and my reputation was becoming known.

After several years of restoration, repairs and remodeling homes, I was approached by a friend/investor to construct some spec homes in the area.  We ventured out and built several and sold them prior to construction even being completed.  We are still today continuing to build homes throughout Brunswick County.  While building these, my reputation now increased as far as one of the better builders in the area.  I started meeting with clients, discussing with them their ideas and wishes.  I then incorporated custom homes into my business profile.  It makes for a long day sometime, but to see the satisfaction of a client after all the work is completed is the most rewarding compliment a builder can have.  I not only build a home for someone, I build a friendship that last after the last nail is driven.  I have many clients who, even eyars after I completed their homes, still invite me over for dinner or special occasions.  That is the type relationship that Seaboard Construction strives for on every job.  We would love to include you into this type personal attention when it comes to making probably the largest investment of your lifetime.

About "Seaboard"

The name for Seaboard Construction has deep roots in my family. Both sets of my grandparents worked for the Seaboard Air Line Railroad in Hamlet, NC. Since moving to the coast of North Carolina, it was very obvious to me to name the company after my heritage. The Seaboard Construction logo was inspired by the original Seaboard Air Line Railroad logo. I made some changes, of course, but the logo always reminds me of where I came from.
